i purchased this due to having to consolidate a bed room for a child and an adult. we got it with the extra pull out trundle which is nice cause then u can hide extra bed. only problem is that its kind of heavy. box spring isnt needed for the bed portion due to the link spring.

wood is very light not sure what kind of wood it is but as long as ur not shaking it or jumping on it it should be fine.
