I bought two of these in red to add a splash of color to my new kitchen. Wow! Did it ever work. Against the granite-look gray countertop they are stunning. The red color is as brilliant as the pictures show. I use them at a counter height peninsular and they work just fine. The backs are low enough so they can slide right under the counter and out of the way when not in use. But rest assured when the grandkids are here they will be in use; the kids just love them! They can sit up high at the counter and they can spin around! Much preferred to sitting at the dining table.
The height adjustment doesn't work quite as I expected. I supposed you would repeatedly pull on the lever to pump them up to the desired height with hydraulics. Not so. Apparently they work on compressed air. When empty you pull the lever and they will pop all the way up. Sit down and pull the lever and they will go down, but it takes a good amount of weight, a small child won't do it. Release the lever to lock them at the desired height. I have not taught the children about the height adjustment; if they pulled the lever while sitting with legs under the counter, the stool would pop up and hit their legs on the underside of my countertop. (This would not happen at bar height; the stools don't go that high.)
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase.
